How Would You Like to Video Call Your pet?
Pawbo is a wireless interactive camera that enables you to monitor your pets remotely and to interact with them via your smartphone. The product was launched after a successful crowdfunding campaign and the company has been acquired by Taiwanese technology giants Acer.
Acer recently launched the Pawbo+ at the IFA trade show in Berlin. This is an improved version of the device offering greater functionality. The Pawbo+ sits in your home and films your pets’ activities. It also enables you to call them and speak to them via the built in microphone. You can listen to their responses and reward them with treats via the integrated treat dispenser. The new 130 degree wide-angled lens of the camera gives you enhanced viewing. Eight people can connect to the device so family and friends can all get involved.
Instant Sharing and an Integrated Laser Pointer
The Pawbo+ will share images instantly on social media. Thankfully, in this case, instantly does not mean that the camera has a mind of its own. You actually do the sharing via an app! The Pawbo+ also incorporates a laser pointer to amuse your pets which you can control manually or set to automatic. Now that should yield some great footage!
The Pawbo+ acts a hub which can be paired with a range of pet accessories which are additional purchases (well they would be wouldn’t they?). The Flash is an infrared light which enables the camera to record your pets’ activities in the dark. This will remove the green glow that you see in animals’ eyes and so will make them appear less demonic in the resulting footage! The Pawbo Munch is an additional treat dispenser that can be strategically positioned as a distraction.
There are two further accessories. The Pawbo Catch is a plastic wand toy and the Pawbo Punch is a “whak-a-mole” type game featuring a rodent which pops its head up to be swiped!
The internet was clearly invented for sharing snaps of cats and dogs! Many animals now have their own Facebook pages and Instagram accounts and enjoy larger followings than human celebrities. The Pawbo+ could be the device which helps you to make a star out of your pooch.
With a Pawbo+ you can interact with your pet from wherever you are and keep up to date with their activities. Time will tell whether pets will enjoy the presence of this device. They may not appreciate the invasion of their privacy! But we all want to know what our pets really get up to when our backs are turned. Now we can find out and voice our disapproval immediately!
On a more serious note, the Pawbo+ could prove useful as a pet monitor for sick animals. It would also be a great comfort to pets which become stressed when you leave them home alone. The device will be available in the UK from September 2016 and the accessories should follow shortly.
